International Tuberculosis Day
March 24th marks the celebration of the World TB day. In 2019 the WHO theme was «It’s time to end Tuberculosis».
The FCT-AKDN Maf-TB Team has joined this celebration by promoting a series of community activities in Bissau.
These activities aimed at better informing the patients and their families about TB, the disease, the importance of treatment compliance, the importance of integrating (not stigmatize) the patients in the community.
In this context, some Team members have visited a series of patients enrolled in the Maf-TB study, discussed the above-mentioned topics and distributed free protective masks.
In these visits, the team has identified patients who had not started the treatment, or who were not following the anti biotherapy regimen.
Some patients were moved to hospital care, due to their poor state. The patient’s families were also involved in these visits.
