Helder Novais Bastos

Helder is a pulmonologist in a tertiary health-care service of a large University Hospital of Porto. Helder’s main focuses are diffuse (formerly known as “interstitial”) lung diseases, respiratory oncology and interventional bronchology.

Helder used to teach at Minho Medical School (Braga) in three different curricular areas: Cell and Molecular Biology (including metabolism, cell cycle, basic genetics and carcinogenesis), Biopathology and Introduction to Therapeutics (mostly medical genetics and infection), and Clinical Pneumology.

Hélder is currently, an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. Helder is very interested in student engagement techniques and have experience in Team Based Learning (TBL). He’s also a medical researcher, applied in understanding the immunopathology of respiratory diseases and its correlation with patients outcomes. Currently, Helder’s collaborate in several research projects of excellency including Maf-TB project.
